Dateline February 9, 1812 East Greenwich, RI manuscript town cancel.  Double rate plus Ship postage surcharge (20+20+2 cents)  Letter from J.R. Smith to his brother James Smith, Philadelphia, PA.  This is an incredibly long letter - about 6 pages - which I have not read.  Read it in it's entirety but plan on having a cup of coffee or two to tide you over.  Click on the camera above to read the entire letter.

1816 West Union irregular Oval CDS.  Predates the Earliest Reported in ASCC (1820) by 4 years.  The postmaster had to apply the Rate and CDS on the reverse of the stampless due to lack of space.

Datelined Union Montgomery Cty Ohio 2nd of May, 1829 from Lyman Porter to his brother John Porter, Queechee Village, Hartford, Vermont.

For those of you unfamiliar with John Porter........

John Porter, (1798-1886), of Hartford, Vermont, was State Senator for the years 1842 and 1843, a probate judge for the district of Hartford for the years of 1850-1886, as well as serving on a commission to oversee the reconstruction of the State House in Montpelier.

1850 Bold Marysville Ohio CDS with bold Paid 10 Rate.  Letter from Joseph Neidich (Joseph Zeigler Neidich was born on December 17, 1818 in PA and died in 1863 in the Civil War) to William Beetem regarding money due him from his brothers estate whom I believe to have been Samuel Neidich, born December 4, 1828 and died March 11, 1848.  Read the letter in it's entirety by clicking the camera above.  Lovely piece!
